As we come to the end of another term and a full academic year, congratulations to all of you for your hard work and dedication. I hope you’re able to take some well-deserved downtime this spring or summer. A special congratulations to this year’s teaching award recipients—your contributions are deeply valued. Congratulations to the 2024-25 Cheryl Regehr Early Career Teaching Award (ECTA) Recipients!

The Cheryl Regehr Early Career Teaching Award recognizes faculty members who are effective teachers and demonstrate an exceptional commitment to student learning, pedagogical engagement and teaching innovation. Congratulations to this year's winners, Professors Lauren McLeod Cramer, John De Backere, Naomi Levy-Strumpf, Aditi Mehta, Shelby Riskin and Lisa Zhang.

Call for Proposals: Access Programs University Fund

The Access Programs University Fund (APUF) is a Provostial fund that supports initiatives at U of T to help students who might not otherwise access post-secondary education. APUF priorities include expanding existing programs, developing new initiatives, improving current programs, fostering community partnerships, and providing experiential learning opportunities for U of T students.

The Access Programs University Fund (APUF) operates through a two-step application process:
  • Consultation with the Access Strategy & Partnerships Office (ASPO) to discuss your proposal - please book by April 28
  • Submission of a full application package - please submit by May 26

CTSI Equity Roundtable: Assessing the Impact of the UTSC Curriculum Review

Thursday, May 1, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. (online)

This session introduces participants to the UTSC Curriculum review in the context of its ongoing implementation, assessing its impact three years on. The process has been collectively led by a Working Circle made up of students, faculty, librarians, staff and community members. Part of CTSI's Equitable Roundtable series, the session will also explore the circle-based process that the Working Circle has followed as an example of the structural change towards which the curriculum review aspires and as a space that centres listening, learning, and dialogue across difference.

Forum on Experiential Learning

Building on the expertise of divisions and units in experiential learning, the Forum on Experiential Learning (FEL) shares internal and external developments in the experiential education landscape. The FEL convenes three times per year and is co-chaired by the Vice-Provost, Innovations in Undergraduate Education (OVPIUE) and the Vice-Provost, Students (OVPS). The next FEL is scheduled for May 8.

Tri-Council Policy Changes for Course-Based Research Ethics

All course-based research involving human participants—including undergraduate theses and major research papers—must receive Research Ethics Board (REB) approval before any research begins, unless exempt. Submissions can be made either as a course template or as individual student projects.

A new initiative, funded by the Vice-Provost, Innovations in Undergraduate Education (VPIUE), aims to provide instructors with customizable content modules designed to enhance Generative AI literacy among students. A key feature of this initiative is designing for adaptability, ensuring that these modules can be integrated into existing courses across various disciplines.
