Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Speakers Series

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Curriculum and Pedagogy Fund

Amidst the evolving discourse on equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within the Faculty of Law, the EDI Speakers Series addresses the critical need for targeted training sessions, engaging legal experts to provide tailored content and foster EDI literacy among first-year law students. These sessions, delivered by legal experts, will cover topics such as anti-Black racism, antisemitism and anti-Asian hate, providing historical, social and legal context tailored for law students. The resources developed as a result of this speaker series will be housed on the EDI Law Resource Centre.

Outcomes

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Speaker Series was developed to introduce first-year law students to a broad range of topics, with a particular focus on applying an EDI lens to both doctrinal learning and the practice of law. Held every Friday for two hours across three months, the series featured an excellent lineup of experts who offered valuable perspectives and critical insights. Building on the success of this initiative, plans are underway to continue the series with expanded opportunities for upper-year student engagement and participation.
