A Drone-based Remote Sensing System to Enhance Undergraduate Education
Description
This project will purchase an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV or drone) and an attached multispectral imager for undergraduate education at the Koffler Scientific Reserve (KSR). This drone-based remote sensing system will be used in undergraduate courses including GGR414 Advanced Remote Sensing, GGR 337 Environmental Remote Sensing, and GGR390 Physical Geography Field Course. Students will gain hands-on experience in acquiring and processing remote sensing images that they can be directly related to observations on the ground. The use of this modern technology in these courses will provide students with a range of applied skills they would otherwise be unable to develop within the available courses. This system will be flown each year at KSR for these courses and will also be used to monitor the conditions at KSR to support related teaching and research projects.
