Three student fellows at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy (two undergraduate PharmD students and one graduate student) have been hired to contribute to EDI and Indigenous Engagement teaching and learning initiatives in the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, particularly with respect to the PharmD curriculum renewal.
The student fellows have collaborated on EDI and Indigenous-related teaching and learning project relevant to our unit. Their project has explored equity in pharmacy education by asking current pharmacy students about their experience within the current curriculum and Faculty.
Research aims:
- to assess and provide solutions to enhance equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in pharmacy education;
- to identify systemic barriers within the Faculty of Pharmacy through student engagement and faculty collaboration;
- to identify opportunities in curricular content, pedagogical approaches, and institutional supports for diverse student populations.
Outcomes
The project has employed both qualitative and quantitative research methods through:
- a single 1-hour long focus group session held in the Pharmacy Building open to pharmacy students in Years 1 through 3 who are on campus,
- and an electronic survey disseminated to all pharmacy students in Years 1 through 4 as fourth year students are on Advanced Professional Pharmacy Experiential (APPE) rotations.
Data analysis and summary is underway.
