Students-as-Partners Approach in Development of Inclusive and Equitable Resources

Learning & Education Advancement Fund Plus (LEAF+)

We used a students-as-partners approach to enrich and strengthen EDI in the Department of Biology curriculum at UTM. Student fellows built an initial set of equitable and inclusive activities and teaching approaches that could be used across courses. They collaborated with the EDIO at UTM and the EDI committees in the Biology Department at UTM in their work. We discussed our work with members of the CTSI-based EDI network and other LEAF+ projects, which led to establishing how we can share knowledge and build capacity around equity, diversity, and inclusion related to teaching and learning. We plan to share the curricular resources we develop with other units seeking to integrate inclusive excellence into the curriculum.
